Who I am

My website address is: https://bluebeachhouseart.com.  This website is a WordPress site operated by Jennifer Buchanan of 41 Hastings Road, Bogangar, New South Wales, Australia.  My registered business name is Jenzart Creations, Australian Business Number 33 060 677 375.

What personal data I collect and why I collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site WordPress collects the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

The contact form submission data is stored in the database of the site on which it was submitted and is emailed directly to the owner of the form (i.e. Jennifer Buchanan). This email will include the submitter’s IP address, timestamp, name, email address, website, and message.  My contact form is provided by a third party plugin, WPforms.   Please refer to their privacy policy here: https://wpforms.com/privacy-policy/ for information on how they may collect and use your data.

The information you provide when submitting a contact form will be retained for an indefinite period and is used for solely for customer service purposes.  I do not use this information for marketing purposes.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on my site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, I will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, I will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select "Remember Me", your login will persist for two weeks. Login cookies will be removed if you logout of your account.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who I share your data with

I employ other companies and people to perform tasks on my behalf and need to share your information with them so I can provide products or services to you. For example, I use Etsy to process product orders, Stripe and PayPal Express Checkout to process payments. Unless I tell you differently and obtain your consent, my agents do not have any right to use the Personal Information we share with them beyond what is necessary to assist us.

Google Analytics

Please refer to the appropriate Google Analytics documentation for the specific type of data it collects. Purchase events will send Google Analytics the following information: order number, product id and name, product category, total cost, and quantity of items purchased. Google Analytics does offer IP anonymization, which can be enabled by the site owner.

Jetpack

I employ Jetpack by Automattic to provide services such as analytics, site security, spam protection and site backups.  Some of your personal information may be shared with Jetpack in order for them to perform these tasks.  Please refer to the Automattic Privacy Notice for Visitors to Our Users’ Sitesfor more details about data that Jetpack collects.

Etsy

I sell physical artworks on Etsy. While you visit my Etsy store, I may track:

  • Products you’ve viewed: I’ll use this to, for example, show you products you’ve recently viewed
  • Location, IP address and browser type: I’ll use this for purposes like estimating taxes and shipping
  • Shipping address: I’ll ask you to enter this so I can, for instance, estimate shipping before you place an order, and send you the order!

I’ll also use cookies to keep track of cart contents while you’re browsing our site.  (Refer to my cookie policy above)

When you purchase from me, I’ll ask you to provide information including your name, billing address, shipping address, email address, phone number, credit card/payment details and optional account information like username and password. I’ll use this information for purposes, such as, to:

  • Send you information about your account and order
  • Respond to your requests, including refunds and complaints
  • Process payments and prevent fraud
  • Set up your account for our store
  • Comply with any legal obligations we have, such as calculating taxes
  • Improve my store offerings
  • Send you marketing messages, if you choose to receive them

I generally store information about you for as long as we need the information for the purposes for which we collect and use it, and I am not legally required to continue to keep it. For example, I will store order information for 5 years for tax and accounting purposes. This includes your name, email address and billing and shipping addresses.

I will also store comments or reviews, if you choose to leave them.

Thinkific

I sell online painting courses through Thinkific. If you create an account on the Blue Beach House Art School website, I will store your name and email address which will be used to populate the checkout for future orders.

I generally store information about you for as long as we need the information for the purposes for which we collect and use it, and I am not legally required to continue to keep it. For example, I will store order information for 5 years for tax and accounting purposes. This includes your name and email address.

I will also store comments or reviews, if you choose to leave them.

I accept payments through Stripe. When processing payments, some of your data will be passed to Stripe, including information required to process or support the payment, such as the purchase total and billing information.

I manage my emails through Brevo.  When communicating with you via email some of your data will be passed to Brevo including information required for the delivery of email.

Akismet

Akismet provides spam protection for this site.  They collect information about visitors who comment on Sites that use the Akismet anti-spam service. The information Akismet collect depends on how the User sets up Akismet for the Site, but typically includes the commenter's IP address, user agent, referrer, and Site URL (along with other information directly provided by the commenter such as their name, username, email address, and the comment itself).

Brevo

Shipping Providers

When mailing physical orders I will, by necessity, share with a shipping provider such as Australia Post some of your personal information.  Shared information includes name and address details along with any order details as required by customs authorities (if applicable).

How long I retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so I can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on my website (if any), I also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data I hold about you, including any data you have provided to me. You can also request that I erase any personal data I hold about you. This does not include any data I are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

How I protect your data

Your data is protected by an SSL certificate which has been purchased for this website.

SSL Certificates are small data files that digitally bind a cryptographic keyto an organization’s details. When installed on a web server, it activates the padlock and the https protocol (over port 443) and allows secure connections from a web server to a browser. Typically, SSLis used to secure credit card transactions, data transfer and logins, and more recently is becoming the norm when securing browsing of social media sites.

Spam protection and blocking of malicious login attempts is provided by Jetpack (see above).

What data breach procedures I have in place

I endeavor to protect the privacy of your account and other Personal Information I hold in my records, but I cannot guarantee complete security. Unauthorized entry or use, hardware or software failure, and other factors, may compromise the security of user information at any time. In the event that I believe that the security of your Personal Information in my possession or control may have been compromised, I will notify you of that development as soon as possible, and, I will do so by the email associated with your account. The Website may contain links to other sites. I am not responsible for the privacy policies and/or practices on other sites. When linking to another site you should read that site's privacy policy.
